NEW Staff

We would like to welcome Mr Wayne Cooper as Assistant Manager of the ARI (Austalasian Research Institute). Wayne comes to us in a strong background in sales and marketing within the nutritional health industry.

Research activity

Since the launch of ARI last July 2004, we have continued to develop its research activities. The ARI is currently involved in a number of projects including:

- A sentinel study of trends in coronary heart disease risk factors in Australia over the past 30 years.

- Cardiovascular Health and nutrition Study of teenage children attending five Adventist secondary schools.

- A pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of the herbal preparation Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) alone or in combination with Hops (Humulus lupulus) in reducing sleep latency in children.

- An investigation of the incorporation of traditional concepts of health into planning a culturally appropriate health care facility for east Kwaio, Solomon Islands

- Developing an understanding of family and social influences on children’s physical activity and participation in a community-sporting event.

- Evaluation of the success of selected wound care dressings in reducing progressive tissue disruption.

- Clinical efficacy study detailing the response of people with gluten intolerance to food made from wheat with gluten intolerance epitopes removed by a novel method of enzyme hydrolysis.

- Resilience strategy for adolescents:  Evaluation of a novel strategy aimed at impacting adolescent resilience markers in smaller Australian communities.
